Who I am

My name is Joe Amundrud. I am a newly-minted vice principal with Chinook’s Edge School Division in central Alberta. Though I’m new to administration, I am a seasoned teacher.

I started this blog with two goals: 1) I want to write more. I read “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey and was profoundly impacted by his argument that character-based leadership is necessary to create trust. Character building habits require discipline, which I don’t have enough of, and Covey posits that everyone should make a regular habit of writing. The pause of writing gives us time to reflect on our thoughts and transform ideas into actions. 2) I want to record my journey odyssey into the world of school leadership, so that I can reflect on the experiences and possibly engage in conversations with other school leaders about education, leadership, and how to keep on course.

My intent to write one reflection per week for a year. There is no need to check to see if a new posting is there. We have become conditioned to expect random “drops,” by design, to keep us hooked to our cell phones. It’s an unethical practice that leads to people sacrificing activities that would bring them a great amount of personal satisfaction, as they habitually check a sequence of social media or websites to see what is new.

My posts will be on Sundays at 5:00pm MST, if there is one.
